MSC has made the decision to redeploy its larger vessels to higher paying routes. MSC has moved all of its megamax vessels from Far East to North Europe services to the Far East to Mediterranean and Asia to West Africa trades to capitalise on rising spot rates.

This is also in response to the softer market currently in Europe where rates have continued to slide over the last two months.

MSC’s strategy is to optimise fleet deployment by aligning vessel capacities with the most profitable trades, and at the same time try to stop the reduction in freight rates on other trades by reducing availability of space.

This comes at a time when MSC and Maersk Line have decided to go their own way on services from the Far East, previously known as 2M, now MSC are calling into Felixstowe and Maersk Line into Gateway.
