Felixstowe Port Strike Action

As has been reported recently in the media, the Port of Felixstowe has confirmed an 8-day strike action starting from 21st August.

Final stages of talks between the Port of Felixstowe management and the Unite union on Monday 8th August failed to reach an agreement on an improved pay offer with the union rejecting offers for continued talks at this stage.

As a result, the proposed strike action will go ahead from 21st August for 8 discontinuous days.

The vessel carriers are now drafting contingency plans to minimise delay and any impact this may have on international trade. It is of course likely to cause some disruption, with limited options available which may include any of the following:

  • Change EU port rotation to avoid any periods of port closure.
  • Discharge import cargo into an EU port, and then feeder the containers back into the UK at a more convenient time.
  • Call at another port if this can be accommodated.

We will closely monitor this situation and adjust our resource accordingly once the contingency plans are known.
