Hanjin Shipping has filed for court receivership after failing to agree with their creditors a restructuring process. Hanjin’s financial woes have been known for some time, however it is now unclear to what extent Hanjin will be operational under the receivership.

We understand from industry sources that vessels owned by Hanjin risk arrest when they dock, and containers which have already arrived at ports are being held by port authorities worldwide, until a ransom charge is paid. We understand in the UK that this fee is around £460, plus a holding deposit of £2,000 which is refundable upon returning the empty container.

Please note that Global Container Services do not operate services with Hanjin, and therefore the impact on our business/our customers containers will have no effect short term.
